I trust that I find most of you well and enjoying your morning coffee. I myself have just returned to Franceland, having spent my first Christmas in Memphis, TN. I know that the folks were happy to have me, but it was strange not coming home to Bowling Green. In the past month I have been a busy bee, working on final exams and applying to PhD programs in Anthropology. Now that those things are out of the way I can focus on my thesis.
Memphis for Christmas was warm, AND sunny, something that us ohioians are not used to! I spent most of my time with my parents watching movies, eating popcorn, and having long breakfasts. After two weeks of veggin' out and turning my brain to mush through my eye sockets, Paris was once again calling my name.
My flight from Memphis to Paris went rather quickly, and the gal sitting next to me was actually a research biologist working in....COLUMBUS. Yep. Just can't escape that Ohio. I was fortunate enough to bring in the new year next to the Eiffel Tower, with a couple gals from Middlebury. We arrived at the Champs de Mars, which is the field just next to the Eiffel Tower, around 11pm. It was packed with people all waiting for a little light show at the stroke of midnight. I would say this experience is not for the faint of heart, as the crowd does not leave much room for standing. We toasted to the New Year with a little bubbly and then with frozen toes and fingers, we headed back to our nice warm apartments.
In fact, the images that I have just uploaded a few photos from my apartment in the 14eme. Although it's not as large as the other one, I am only one person. Thus, I do not need as much space.
